3 Expert Tips on Website Optimization

Our Senior Director of User Experience Norma Shepardson has expert advice in her video on how to use HubSpot to get the most out of your website.

Here are Shepardson’s 3 bite-sized tips for website optimization: 

Tip 1: Optimize Images

Shepardson recommends optimizing images to boost website performance. One of the easiest and fastest ways to improve site speed is by ensuring all your images are formatted correctly and compressed.  

In HubSpot, you can upload images to the File Manager to use them in your HubSpot content. Doing so will allow you to gain a quick overview of the size and load time of your files.

Be sure that your images are formatted as jpeg, gif, png, and svg. Also confirm that the image size is in kilobytes, not megabytes, to help make your site as zippy as possible.

Tip 2: Test Website Elements

Shepardson advises you to test elements of your website to see what’s working and what’s not. Don’t be afraid of all the HubSpot dashboards and data. You can easily make data-driven decisions based on user behavior by A/B testing landing page headers and buttons.  

Use the reports generated by those tests. The reports are in your HubSpot account to help you make decisions about what to change on your website. This data will also help you understand what is working well.

Tip 3: Rework the H1

Shepardson’s last quick tip is to rework your home page H1 so it tells visitors why they should stay on your website. Your H1 has less than 15 seconds and 70 characters to tell your visitors what your company does, who you do it for, and why you’re the best.

Get started by writing down what you want to say, cut it in half, and then cut it in half again. The HubSpot Design Manager makes it super easy to get in there and edit your home page H1. Give your new H1 your best shot and then put it to the test.
